The first step was to disconnect and remove the aftermarket gauges from under the dash.
In order to get the gauge cluster out of the dash, the trim cover was removed and the shift indicator cable was disconnected.
Then the cluster retaining screws was removed and the cluster was pulled from the dash.
Moving to a work bench, the gauge unit was removed from the factory chrome bezel. First the gauges, then the face plate, and lastly the plastic window were removed.
This shot of the new unit next to the factory unit shows the effective use of every inch of space on the new piece.
Reassembly was as simple as setting a new plastic window in, followed by the new gauge unit. The new assembly was secured in place using the factory screws in the factory locations. |
